Questions about the lights map

How to find the best displays, plan a route, and add your own house.

Finding lights

Where are the best Christmas lights in San Angelo?

Open the lights map and switch to Top 10. Those are the displays San Angelo families have voted for most this season. The Photos view lets you scroll every house at once.

Which houses are lit right now?

Tap Lit right now above the map. It uses the hours each homeowner gave, in San Angelo time, and hides houses that visitors reported dark tonight.

How do I plan a driving route to see the lights?

Tap Add to route on each house you want to see, then Build route. We put the stops in a sensible driving order and you can open the whole trip in Google Maps, Apple Maps or your car.

How many houses can I put in one route?

As many as you like. Google Maps takes about ten stops at a time, so longer routes are split into parts you open one after another.

Can I share my route with family?

Yes. In the route window tap Share route. The link opens the same stops on anyone's phone.

Which displays are synced to music?

Tap the Synced to music filter. Many of those houses list a radio station so you can tune in from the car.

Is there anything good for small kids?

Try the Walk-through, Inflatables and Santa visits filters, and read each listing's notes for things like candy canes or photo spots.

What time do most Christmas lights come on?

Most houses here light up around dusk and turn off between 10 and 11 pm. Every listing shows its own hours.

What does Reported dark tonight mean?

Visitors can tap Report dark if a house is off. Once a couple of people report it on the same night, it is marked dark and left out of new routes until the next evening.

Adding your house

How do I add my house to the San Angelo lights map?

Use Add your house. Type your address, drag the pin onto your roof, add a night photo or two and your hours. It is free.

How long until my house shows up?

Every new listing gets a quick photo check, usually within a day. You get a private link to edit your listing right away.

Do I have to give my name or email?

No. Both are optional and never shown. If you give an email we send your private edit link there so you do not lose it.

How do I change my hours or photos?

Open the private edit link you got when you added your house. New photos get another quick check before they show.

How do I take my house off the map?

Open your private edit link and tap Take my house off the map. It is gone right away, photos included. If you lost the link, email us your address.

Can I list a business, church or neighborhood display?

Yes. Pick Business or public when you add it. Big public displays may be marked as featured.

Does my listing come back next year?

Your display drops off the map the day after your last night. Next season, open the same edit link and tap List it again.

What photos work best?

A wide shot at dusk, when the sky is still a little blue, shows the house and the lights together. Hold the phone steady or lean on something.

About this site

Who runs San Angelo Lights?

It is a free holiday service from Mediajaw Web Design, a San Angelo web design and hosting company. No ads and no fees.

Is it really free?

Yes, to use and to list. There are no paid placements. Featured pins are public displays, not paid ads.

How is the Top 10 decided?

By hearts from visitors this season. Each phone or computer can heart a house once.

Something is wrong with a listing. Who do I tell?

Email [email protected] with the address and what is wrong. We read every message.

Please be a good neighbor

Drive slowly, do not block driveways, stay off lawns unless a display invites you in, and turn your headlights down when you stop.
